The Circus Museum combines 2 interesting concepts: a main museum housing a shop and 2 floors of exhibits showing the history of circuses, and a building across the square containing a hall where you can try out all the acrobatics for yourself (Cirkusleg / Circus Play). This latter hall is open only on Sundays.
The main museum contains a mixture of multi-media displays (videos, sound and interactive touch screens), props from real-world circus use, and interactive elements for kids, such as dressing up gear. There's plenty of history regarding circuses in Denmark over the last 150 years, as well as more general information, such as on the use of animals in circuses.
The Cirkusleg (Circus Play) is a really interesting concept and allows anyone (kids are especially welcomed) to try trapeze swings, juggling, plate spinning, rope walking and many other circus-related physical activities. This element is included in the main museum entry price.
The Circus Museum is set in a quiet part of Hvidovre and access is probably best via car or bicycle.
