Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city? This green haven in the centre of Copenhagen is the perfect place to relax. King’s Garden (Kongens Have in Danish) was laid out by King Christian IV in the early 1600s, making it Denmark’s oldest royal garden. The garden belongs to Rosenborg Castle, which was the aforementioned King Christian’s city summerhouse, and now houses the Danish crown jewels, so you can easily spend an afternoon exploring both outside and inside. In the summer, the sprawling flowerbeds bloom and locals lounge on the grass, soaking up the sun and sipping on Carlsberg or Tuborg beer. Even in the winter, the sun-loving Danes flock to the park as soon as the clouds part, turning their faces towards the light and soaking up some much-needed vitamin D.
There is a small cafe selling coffee and ice creams in the south corner of the park, as well as lots of bars, restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
