Once the sun has started to go down, take a short drive to Cape Sounion, where you can walk up to the Temple of Poseidon. The temple was constructed in the mid-fifth century BC, and is situated within a fort that was created to protect the coast of Attica, an ancient Greek region that incorporated Athens and its surroundings. Not only are the temple ruins a fascinating sight in themselves, but their location at the edge of the coastline means that there are sweeping views over the sea in all directions. If you can, time your visit to coincide with sunset.
