Hawa Mahal translates into English as "Palace of Breeze".
The 15m tall palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh - grandson of the founder of the city of Jaipur - Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh. It was completed in 1799.
The Hawa Mahal is one of the most famous images associated with the city of Jaipur - found, for example, on the front cover of The Lonely Planet guide.
There are 953 latticed windows in the palace which were built to allow the ladies of the day to enjoy the festivities down below without having to reveal their faces in public.
