A trip to the this lovely Danish town is not complete without a visit to the Skagens Kunstmuseer or Skagens Museum. This quaint little museum houses some of Skagen's most prolific art produced in the area between 1870 and 1930. The artists whose work is displayed here were part of the famous "Skagen School". It is during this period that the town was transformed into an artist's colony - the mesmerizing illusion of sunlight dancing on the dunes and on the blue sea would transfix many. Look out for works by Holger Drachmann, Anna and Michael Ancher and P.S. Krøyer among many others. Most famous works here are "Summer evening on Skagen Sønderstrand" (Krøyer), "Midsummer Eve Bonfire at Skagens beach" (Krøyer), "Launching the boat" (Björck), "Anna Ancher and Marie Krøyer going for an Evening Walk along Sønderstrand" (Michael Ancher) and "Rocky Coast" (Drachmann).
Afterwards, spend some time at the exquisite garden cafe.
